For this fight, the hunters have help. An ancient succubus will switch sides to join an honorable priest as they chase Elizabeth to a deadly conclusion. But first, they must find the strength to resist the call of darkness.
Their mission kill the ultimate evil. But this time, she knows they’re coming.

Mask of the Swan The Fearless Book 2 eBook Terry Maggert

Ring, Risa, and Waleska are recuperating after a vicious battle with an ancient monster who in this time calls herself Elizabeth. Yet they can’t rest for very long after Delphine, one of Elizabeth’s ‘daughters’, contacts them with information about Elizabeth’s plans to reign in Hell. With the aid of new allies, the three fighters will stop at nothing to bring Elizabeth down. Yet will it be enough?

I found MASK OF THE SWAN to be more entertaining and captivating than the first book, THE FOREST BULL. I really enjoyed delving more into Delphine and Elizabeth’s relationship and their pasts. I also liked the way the story was told through different POVs, from Ring to some of Elizabeth’s ‘archangels’. I loved the new characters and the expounding on previous characters. It did get a little tiresome how Ring, Risa, and Waleska’s “unusual” relationship was brought up more than necessary. Considering what they fight against every day, I can’t see their relationship being the strangest thing about them. I was pleasantly surprised by the ending and I do hope to see these three in other adventures. While there is a bit of back-story rehash in MASK OF THE SWAN, I do recommend you read THE FOREST BULL first to get some of the more subtle nuances.

Mask of the Swan The Fearless Book 2 eBook Terry Maggert Reviews

Unconventional lovers Ring, Wally, and Risa are back. The three spend their days slaying monsters, saving the oblivious human race.

Petite, with beautiful blonde hair cascading to her trim waist, Delphine looks like a charming Barbie doll. Beneath the pretty exterior, she is an ancient succubus. She sucks the memory, will, and life from each unsuspecting victim. After being routed by the merciless Elizabeth, Delphine makes an important decision. An unexpected ally, Delphine aids Ring, Wally, and Risa in their mission to save the world.

With the ultimate hubris, Elizabeth believes she can take over Hell. She's prepared to slash and hack her way through anyone who stands in her way.

The Mast of the Swan is even better than the first book in the series, The Forest Bull. With his imagination and storytelling, Terry Maggert offers a wonderful new fantasy. The characters are believable and the dialogue is excellent.

The story is solely about planning the act of killing Elizabeth and led me through the day to day activity of the family and all of their collected friends. Wally, Ring & Risa make some new friends and allies of a couple of immortals. Patroclus and Achilles from Greek mythology make appearances and if you know Greek mythology, you are well aware of the tangled web from which they come. Both know of Elizabeth and of her horrendous schemes that are measured by the most horrible wars and historical genocide. Elizabeth manipulated these events so she could receive power from the death and destruction. Over and over I am reminded of her menace as she gleefully laughs through it all. Delphine plays an important part in this story much to the dismay of Wally and Risa. Funny thing, I didn’t hear much complaining from Ring though...
Our heroes are back. Ring, Risa and Wally are busily recuperating in the Florida sun when Delphine, an immortal they aren’t sure they can trust, wants to talk. As a daughter of the immortal beast Elizabeth, she has information that can help bring her down, but it isn’t something she can do alone. Delphine doesn’t want Elizabeth accomplishing her end goal, to lead in Hell, and she wants Ring and the girls to help see it doesn’t happen.

There’s a lot to recommend this book. One of my peeves about immortal characters is that they come with a tremendous amount of history that is often reduced to, “That sword was forged by a Viking craftsman. I bought it new.”
In Mask of the Swan, we get a compelling history of Delphine, how she became what she is and her relationship with Elizabeth over the years, that I found very entertaining.

What disappointed me with this story was the flat resolution to the conflict. We were introduced to another immortal, one I’m interested to know more about, but the build up with Elizabeth’s long range plans, the fact that she might be behind our hero’s transformations; all of that seemed to go nowhere.

Overall, while I wished for a different ending, I enjoyed the book and look forward to book three.
Wow. This book is hard to describe, but in a word it's... different. In a few more words a wonderful fantasy adventure romp with unconventional characters.

Following the events of the prequel (The Forest Bull), our main characters Ring, Risa, and Wally (Waleska) rise to meet new threats. Elizabeth, an ancient and malevolent creature, plots to become the master of hell.

When the heroic trio aren't out slaying bizarre creatures to keep humanity safe, they're off to their own... devices, in a euphemistic sense. Ring's compatriots are female, and he often has romantic interactions with the two of them. This gets mentioned a fair amount, but if nothing else it helps round out the characters -- they can't just go around slaying things all day without some down time, after all. It also helps make the characters, and the book as a whole, into the quirky and unique fantasy romp it is.
